Shuffleboard Rules – All Markets

Markets: DC Metro, Los Angeles, New Jersey, New York, San Francisco, San Jose

Format: Shuffleboard

Table shuffleboard is a game where players slide metal pucks (also called weights) down a long, smooth table, aiming to score by landing in designated zones at the far end of the table. Here’s a summary of the rules:

Objective:

  • Slide pucks down the table to land in scoring zones at the opposite end, aiming for the highest score while possibly knocking opponent pucks off or out of scoring areas.

Set-Up:

  • Each player or team has four pucks of one color (typically red or blue). Players take turns sliding pucks toward the scoring end, trying to outscore their opponent.

Gameplay:

  • Players stand at the same end of the table and alternate turns sliding their pucks toward the scoring zones at the far end.
  • A puck must pass the foul line near the scoring end to be eligible for points.

Scoring:

  • Scoring zones typically range from 1 to 4 points, with the 3 or 4-point zone at the table’s edge.
  • Only the pucks closest to the edge (without falling off) score points in each round, and only the player with the farthest puck scores for that round.
  • Pucks that fall off or do not cross the foul line do not score.
  • Players add up points at the end of each round, and games are played to 15 points.

Fouls:

  • Touching or moving a puck during an opponent’s turn or knocking a puck off the table can result in loss of turn or removal of a puck.

Strategy:

  • Players often aim to knock opponent pucks out of scoring zones or position their own pucks strategically near the edge without letting them fall off.

SPORTSMANSHIP

ZogSports is a charity-focused, social sports club. Our goal is for you to have fun. We hope that you keep this in mind when participating. Although the games may become intense, you still can be competitive while maintaining good sportsmanship. With this said, any behavior deemed unacceptable by the umpire or ZogSports staff may result in suspension and/or ejection from a game or the league.

ALL PROTESTS MUST BE MADE AT THE FIELD. WE WON’T CHANGE THE OUTCOME OF A COMPLETED GAME.

SUSPENSIONS/EJECTIONS

  • Any player(s)/team(s) that are involved in a fight will be suspended from all ZogSports Leagues for life. Any teams will forfeit all remaining games. The umpire has the right to sit a player for an inning if necessary.
  • Any player abusing the referee will automatically be ejected from the game without a warning.
  • A player ejected for ANY reason will be suspended for the next game. If that player is caught playing in that game, the team will forfeit.

While we appreciate the level of competitiveness in our league, we do not tolerate any unsportsmanlike behavior. This includes anyone who:

  • Antagonizes players on other teams or their own teammates
  • Exhibits excessive uncontrollable play
  • Inappropriately “mouths off” to the referee(s)
  • Verbally or physically threatens a member of our staff
  • Any player ejected from a game will be suspended for a minimum of one game
  • ZogSports reserves the right to remove any player from a game(s), season and/or future season
  • ZogSports reserves the right to remove a full team from the schedule and/or future seasons if we feel they are unable to participate in a manner in keeping with ZogSports’ mission to provide a fun, charity-focused, co-ed league

FORFEIT PENALTIES AND NOTIFICATION

Penalties

First Offense: Loss of game and warning issued

Second Offense: Loss of game and removal from the playoffs

Third Offense: Removal from the rest of the schedule

FORFEIT NOTIFICATION

To forfeit, please fill out this form.

Forfeits ruin the experience for everyone. ZogSports exists to give you an opportunity to play and build community and forfeiting is a huge bummer. If your team absolutely needs to forfeit, you must let us know in advance so we can contact your opponent so that they don’t unnecessarily travel to the gym/field.

If you do not inform us of a forfeit your team could face penalties in your league’s standings. Once ZogSports is notified of your forfeit, it is final (you cannot change your mind) and the other team will be notified.

There is no additional penalty if you show up short-handed (and need to add other ZogSports players to field a full team) and have to forfeit the game, since you did make an effort to get a team to play.
